REPLICA Beach Walk by Maison Martin Margiela (2012).

Created in 2012 by Jacques Cavallier and Marie Salamagne, Beach Walk is a floral fruity gourmand that evokes the sensory memory of a summer walk along the ocean: the warm sun, a gentle breeze, salted skin, and the feeling of sand between you toes and the waves carressing your legs.

Top Notes:
Bergamot, pink pepper, lemon.

Heart Notes:
Transluzone, ylang ylang, cococut milk.

Base Notes:
Musk, cedar, benzoin.

L'Air du Temps Eau de Parfum by Nina Ricci (1948).

L’Air du Temps was created in 1948 by Nina Ricci's son, Robert Ricci and master perfumer Francis Fabron as an ode to femininity and a post-war mood of peace. A beautiful perfume that reminds me a lot of Chanel Nº5 and Chanel Nº22, but slightly more innocent and ethereal.

Top Notes:
Carnation, aldehydes, rose, neroli, Brazilian rosewood, peach, bergamot.

Heart Notes:
Carnation, clothes, gardenia, jasmine, ylang-ylang, rose, violet, orris root, rosemary, orchid.

Base Notes:
Spices, iris, oakmoss, musk, sandalwood, benzoin, amber, vetiver, cedar.

I'm on the prowl for just the right shade of red nail polish for my complexion. Unfortunately, it mostly ends up looking berry or fuchsia on me, which must have something to do with my undertones. Who knew a classic color could be so complicated? But I take comfort in the fact that I am not alone in my dogged pursuit.

N.B. So far, Chanel Pirate (year-round) and Essie Clambake (summertime) have met the required standard.

I think Erin Wasson frequently demonstrates that dramatic yet effortless is not necessarily a contradiction in terms. For me, it's a phenomonon to be filed under "good inspiration," to be revisted and referenced time and again. It's also one reason why she's a style icon of mine.

Diva by Emanuel Ungaro (1983).

Diva was Emanuel Ungaro's first perfume and was created by Jacques Polge in 1983. Conceived as a fragrance dedicated to women, even its bottle was designed to evoke the curves of the female body. So of course, this perfume was loved and worn by Sophia Loren, one of the ultimate women.
